Aguilar de Campoo is a village full of charm and welcoming people. It is the hamlet where all senses are awaken.
A characteristic and sweet smell of biscuits welcomes you when you enter the village. The agro-food industry is an emblem and a mainstay of our development. At the same time the River Pisuerga flows gently and calmly immersing us in a quiet and serene melody. We are incited to take a walk throughout the “Cascajera” and our sense of touch arouses. The visitor is invited by our historic and natural heritage to enjoy from the magnificence of a rich and wonderful Romanesque. Santa María la Real, Santa Cecilia and a great number of churches sprinkling our municipality’s landscape, provoke a short contact with the splendour of the stone that takes us to a very distant time, which left its stamp in our land and made it the most select and pick collection of Romanesque buildings. The Collegiate Church of San Miguel, the Castle, the Wall and the Seven Gateways live together with the growing of a village bursting of future projects. All a scenery that delights the eyesight, the enjoyment of a colourful landscape that varies during the course of the year, from the white of the snowed summits to the match of colours of our fields in spring, with the mountains’ greenness, or to the most varied range of brown, ochre and yellow that flood our surrounds in autumn. The taste can not go unnoticed to this enjoyment of the senses. Our splendid gastronomy submerges the traveller’s palate in wonderful sensations with the delicious and diverse cuisine that our courteous hotel-keepers and restaurant owners offer at their establishments.
Aguilar is a village filled with cultural activities. The Short Film Festival is one of our municipality’s regional emblem, but there are also our Carnivals – full of human warmth and joy that inundate our streets of music and revelry-, our Street Artists Festival, AESCENA (theatre season) and several musical activities. Everyone wanting to visit us has, at any time of the year, a reason or an excuse to escape to the Palentine Mountain, to Aguilar de Campoo.
I hope I have managed to awake your curiosity and that next time Aguilar will be a compulsory stop on your way – I am sure that you will love it and that you will come back. We will be pleased to entertain you and we will receive you with open arms.
Kind regards,
The Mayoress
